Tension in Kolhapur after Shiv Sena on Sunday shut down movie theatres playing Kannada movie
Tension continues to prevail in Kolhapur after Shiv Sainiks on Sunday shut down movie theatre playing a Kannada movie. Sainiks also removed posters of a Kannada movie, threw black ink on bill boards having any word in Kannad inscribed on them and also burnt effigy of the Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddiyurappa.
Considering the fragility of the situation, bus services between the two states have been put on hold temporarily. Karnataka and Maharashtra have long witnessed dispute surrounding border areas. Chief Minister of Maharshtra, Uddhav Thackery had recently appointed Eknath Shinde and Chhagan Bhujbal to look into the dispute. Uddhav had also accused the central government of favouring Karnataka over Maharashtra. Meanwhile, the matter of contention between the two states is also being heard by the apex court.
Uddhav's statement in the Maharashtra assembly had created stir in Karnataka in the last couple of days, as several organisation protested against Maharashtra CM and also burn his effigy.
Reacting on situation, Kolhapur, Member of Parliament, Dhairyasheel Mane said, " Bhimshankar Patti and Karnataka Navnirman Sena had insulted our state and CM by burning his effigy, people here are only reacting to that."
