- Veteran actress and politician Jayaprada has received a huge jolt from the Egmore Court in Chennai.
- The yesteryear diva has been sentenced to 6 months in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 in connection with a case that dates back to several years.
- Along with Jayaprada, her business partners Ram Kumar and Raja Babu are also sentenced to 6 months imprisonment along with Rs 5,000 fine.
- Going into the details, Jayaprada and her business partners owned a movie theater in Rayapeta in Chennai. However,
- they had shut down the theater a few years ago as it was making losses.
- But they failed to repay the ESI amount
- which they had deducted from the theater staff’s salaries.
- The staff then moved the Egmore Court against Jayaprada, her
- business partners and also the State Insurance Corporation for not clearing their ESI dues.
- The Labour Government Insurance Corporation in turn filed a case against Jayaprada, Ram Kumar and Raja Babu at the
- Egmore Magistrate Court in Chennai which led to their sentencing.
- Even though Jayaprada had submitted to the court that she will clear all the dues to the theater staff and appealed to the court to dismiss the case,
- the court has turned down her appeal and sentenced her to 6 months in jail along with a fine of Rs 5,000.
